Sacrifice

June 10, 2008 20:24 by Chris Smith

A common trait found in profoundly successful people is that they have made sacrifices along the way to get what they want.  A steely focus of determination might have meant that some relationships did not get as much attention as they could have.  Perhaps for others they may have taken a few less holidays.  Hours of sleep may have been sacrificed.  Everything has a price and when you are passionate about an idea, a business venture or a relationship, sometimes other things have to take a back seat.  It doesn't mean that you will never get around to working on relationships or socialising more, it is a timing consideration.

What are you prepared to sacrifice for your dream?  I wonder how badly you want it?  How will your life be different when you have achieved whatever it is you have achieved.  Put yourself in the place of already having it.  Does it measure up?  Could you have done it differently, in less time perhaps?  Will you quickly want to move onto something else?  Is it the achieving or the completing that really floats your boat?

Paul McKenna has just launched his new book, "I Can Make You Rich".  He has studied excellence in a number of high achievers and has encapsulated the findings into this work, together with a hypnotic CD.  Of course the truth is, you can learn a number of strategies to help you think the way that successful people think.  Most importantly you have to have clarity about what you are prepared to sacrifice for your dream.  If the lawn does not get cut this week, who else can do it?  How much would it cost you to hire a cleaner if you don't already have one?  What are you worth per hour?  Now map that against the cost of getting somebody to do the things that you don't have time for as you build your dream.  What are you willing to sacrifice this week to move you closer to where you want to be?
