Trance Phenomena

May 26, 2008 20:32 by Chris Smith
Day 4 from the inside track of the Master NLP Practitioner here in London.  Things are really getting interesting now.  Imagine sitting through 4 days of a hypnotic stage show with arguably the world's most skilled mind engineers.  Think about a large ballroom that accommodates about 500 people, now put 300 comfortable chairs in it.  I wonder what colour you imagined them to be?  What do the chairs look like?  How far apart are they?  What colour is the carpet?  Now put a stage at the front of the room and put two chairs on it.  Congratulations, you have just entered into a state of trance..............you used your own imagination and make pictures.  We call this trance.  We all go in and out of trances all day long.  Watching TV, reading a book, driving your car, having a conversation with somebody, they are all ways by which we drift in and out of trance.  In NLP and Hypnotic terms we refer to any altered state as trance phenomena.  When your mind shifts from fragmented thought patterns to singular focus, the subconscious mind is capable of accessing insights that, up until now, have been hiding away somewhere.  So if you have ever worried about your ability to drop into a trance, remind yourself just how easy it is the next time you get 'lost' in your favourite programme or book.  More tomorrow.Wink
