Wellness

August 13, 2008 21:54 by Chris Smith

Today is the 61st birthday of a dear friend  Robert Key, Executive Director of the Elton John AIDS foundation.  Last year we celebrated Robert's big Six O down in Nice.  In his birthday speech last year he said that he did not think he would make his 60th.  Robert has a condition called myelofibrosis - this is rare bone marrow disorder and as I write this Robert is in the Royal Free hospital in Hampstead here in London recovering after a bone marrow transplant.  He is rallying round after picking up an opportunistic infection called CMV and undergoing further surgery.  We have been unable to visit Robert because of the strict quarantine conditions imposed to protect him from further infections.

There almost seems to be a cruel irony that somebody who has raised countless millions for those affected by HIV and AIDS should contract this degenerative condition.  He is undoubtedly one of the kindest people that I have ever met and has made a phenomenal contribution to the lives of others.  Now for those reading this blog who are well practised in Ho'oponopono I know that you will join me in doing some 'cleaning' so that Robert's health moves in a positive direction.

Many people who give so much to others sometimes forget to re-stock their own well.  The well I am talking about here is the 'well of wellness'.  You need to take regular care of your physiological and psychological well-being.  Next time you travel by air, listen to the safety announcement made before departure.  "In the unlikely event of a sudden loss of pressure, oxygen masks will fall from the panel above your head.  Place the mask over your mouth and nose and breath normally.  The action of pulling the mask to your face will activate the oxygen supply.  Ensure that you fit your own mask before helping children and infants."  You can't give away what you don't have to give, especially when the well is dry.  What do you need to do to make sure that your well is stocked and that your wellness if foremost on your agenda?  When you read this blog today, send some healing thoughts and energy to this special person to help with his recovery and while you are doing that, make sure that you are doing everything possible to look after your own wellness.
